"The Bone Yard" 16"x24" Canvas Print Signed by Karen Stemmle.
The beloved boneyard beach at Hunting Island State Park, a 2-mile stretch adjacent to its iconic lighthouse, has vanished. This beach, known for its stunning driftwood and weathered remains of shoreline trees from the eroding maritime forest, was a cherished natural attraction.
These boneyard beaches are characterized by the picturesque, sculptural formations of fallen trees gradually washing into the ocean. Sadly, the bleached trees that once adorned this beach have been bulldozed and piled up, a necessary safety action, according to officials.
Karen Stemmle captured the natural beauty of this treasure before its destruction, and her work now stands as a poignant piece of Low Country history.
